Soapbox again...

I know I've been on a soapbox of sorts with this health care bill. :( It passed 60-39 Christmas Eve Day. It was a sad day for Americans and most of them don't understand how sad it will be until they start paying for this. So many are misled into thinking they will be getting "free" health care now. Sorry, it doesn't work that way. We, of all people, understand the cost of doctor visits and hospitals and tests and medications. It has been a long 14 months of health care costs. If I thought my life would be easier with the passage of the bill I wouldn't have fought it so much, maybe. I'm still against government-run anything. They don't have a good track record.

Our Christmas Eve went well. We attended a candlelight service in the church I grew up in and my parents still attend. The girls played violin and sang with daughters of ladies I went to church with and sang with once upon a time. We had lasagna and opened gifts at my parents afterwards. My brother is a brat but I forgive him. I was originally hoping to buy a Wii computer game system for the kids for Christmas but opted not to buy them anything and he went and bought them one. I am not a computer person, I must say but the Wii is so interactive physically that I thought it would be a lot of fun on snowy days like today. They have been playing baseball, bowling and boxing today. It may work as a great incentive to get school done.

Four kids have birthdays in the next two weeks and then another in 5 weeks so I just decided to do birthday presents only since they would get gifts from others for Christmas. Well, we didn't even get a thing for their stockings. Yesterday morning Kevin and I had second thoughts because the kids couldn't wait until they woke up to see what was in their stockings :( We woke up and walked down the hallway where the stockings were to find them full of things. I thought it was a joke at first and the kids filled them with stuff from around home but there were real things filling those stockings. My oldest and very dear daughter Jordan thought about my comments for the last couple weeks about not doing stockings this year and developed a plan. She did a really great job of picking out just the right things. The kids were thrilled! and Dad and I were saved and blessed by such a beautiful gesture. Just when you think you have failed as a parent in so many ways God gives you glimpses into your child's character that let you know it's OK. Praise for God's goodness to us. Only through Him do we having anything good to think about. Praise Kevin has been home all weekend! Merry Christmas all. We are snowed in good here as Kevin's tractor is stuck down the driveway. Praise I guess for our time together!
